The Energy Ministry will call a meeting of Klaipėdos Nafta shareholders, which will amend the company’s by-laws that should include the construction of the LNG terminal as one of its operational objectives. Moreover, the authority of Klaipėda port will be authorized to develop the existing and new infrastructure so that the LNG terminal could be built and launched by December 2014.
Norway's Hoegh LNG has won a tender to supply a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for the LNG terminal. A 10-year contract with the Norwegian company is to be signed soon.
According to plans, the LNG terminal, estimated to cost about 200 million euros, will have an annual capacity of 2 billion to 3 billion cubic meters.
