Klaipėda remains attractive for foreign tourists

Despite opinions to the contrary, Klaipėda remains an attractive city for tourists from all over the world, with Germans accounting for 35-40 percent of all foreign visitors to the port city, the Vakarų Ekspresas online news site reports.

It quotes Lina Markauskienė of Klaipėda Tourism and Culture Information Center, who says that there has been an increase in the number of Estonian tourists.

"The number of visitors from Russia - not only from neighboring Kaliningrad, but also from Moscow and St. Petersburg - has been rising at a fast rate in the past two years. Following a decline in visits from the neighboring country, Latvians started to travel to Klaipėda again," she said, commenting on this summer's trends.

Tourists spend an average 24 to 36 hours in the city of Klaipėda.
