The current account deficit in the fourth quarter alone reached 1.4 billion litas, or 5.3 percent of the quarterly GDP, the Bank of Lithuania said on Monday.

In December, compared to November, the current account deficit soared by 68 percent to 589.2 million litas due to the widening of the income balance deficit and the current transfers balance moving into deficit for the first time ever.

Lithuania's current account showed a surplus of 1.4 billion litas in 2010.
