Lithuania's Agrowill mulls investing in solar collectors

Agrowill Group, one of Lithuania's largest agricultural investment groups, is planning to use its buildings for renewable energy projects and invest around 2 million litas (EUR 580,000) in solar plants next year, provided it obtains permission to supply energy to the national distribution grid.

Agrowill Group Chairman Vladas Bagavičius told BNS that depending on solar energy needs, the company will decide exactly how much to invest and whether to participate in the project.

"The group owns many real estate units, such as farms, industrial facilities, and warehouses. We want to use that and, therefore, have filed applications to supply solar energy (to the grid). We will wait for an answer as to demand for this energy and the tariff, and will then decide on concrete investments in the project," he said.

Bagavičius said that the group is currently considering investing around 2 million litas in solar energy in 2013. The group would put up small solar plants on the roofs of its buildings.

Last August, Agrowill Group established 20 new companies under the name of AgroSaulė for investments into renewable energy projects at its current locations, the company said in its performance report for January through September.

Agrowill Group's shares are quoted on the NASDAQ OMX Vilnius stock exchange and on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
