Lithuania’s Akmenė Cement looking for export markets

Akmenės Cementas (Akmenė Cement), Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer, is looking for export markets for its production that it will manufacture from 2013, after the completion of an upgrade of its facilities, the Verslo Žinios business daily reports on Wednesday.

The company sees good chances for exports to Scandinavia, Russia’s enclave of Kaliningrad as well as to the central part of Russia, where the cement market is not yet saturated and the products from Lithuania could be delivered fast thanks to well-developed transport infrastructure.

“Search for new markets and customers is vital for us and we focus on that now. We are building a new plant, which will have the capacity much larger what we have now, hence we must secure our future sales today,” Akmenės Cementas CEO Artūras Zaremba told the daily.

Last year the company produced close to 1 million tons of cement and got back to the pre-crisis production level.

A new advanced line will enable Akmenės Cementas to produce up to 1.5 million tons of cement per year, up from current 1.2 million tons.
