The Belorussian media reports that Maxima has acquired the domain maximabelarus.by, has established a company that would deal with expansion in the neighboring country and will open the first stores to buyers at the end of the year.
Belarus’ reporters quote Aurimas Namajuška, CEO of Glera, who has worked for Maxima Group for many years. Namajuška said that Glera planned to open mid-sized stores – of some 1,000 square meters – in Belarus and the first stores should be opened at the end of the year.
Namajuška would not confirm that the retail chain would be linked with Maxima Group, which is owned by Vilniaus Prekyba. However, he would not deny that, either.
“I am not authorized to comment on relations with Maxima and Vilniaus Prekyba Group,” he said.
Meanwhile, Giedrius Juozapavičius, representative of Maxima Group, and Diana Dominienė, CEO of Vilniaus Prekyba, told the Lietuvos Rytas that both Glera and Namajuška had nothing to do with Maxima or Vilniaus Prekyba.
“We have plans for Belarus but not today. When? It is not clear,” Dominienė said.
