Lithuania's retail sales growth remains EU's highest

Lithuania's annual retail sales growth rate in the first month of this year remained the highest among the EU's 27 member states, data from the EU statistical office Eurostat showed on Monday.

Lithuania's retail trade volume rose by 17 percent in January year-on-year.

Latvia posted the EU's second-highest growth rate, at 16.6 percent, followed by Romania with 10 percent. In the EU-27, retail sales edged up by 0.7 percent on average.

In January, compared with December, Lithuania's retail sales rose by 2.7 percent, and Latvia's retail sales were up by 6.4 percent.

Data for Estonia and several other countries are not available in the report.
