Lithuanian Gas complains to Brussels over 25 percent rule

Lithuania's natural gas import and transportation company Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas), which is controlled by Germany's E.ON Ruhrgas and Russia's Gazprom, asked the European Commission to initiate infringement proceedings against the so-called "25 percent rule" on Thursday.

"The Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal and its secondary legislation bluntly violate, inter alia, European Union law and severely restrict and distort competition," the company said in a press release on Friday.

"There is no need to impose any competition distorting measures like the mandatory purchase obligation. Such measures would only cause gas prices to go up," Joachim Hockertz, Lietuvos Dujos' deputy CEO and commercial director, said in the press release.
