Lithuanian Gas sells its Palanga hotel to Best Western

Lithuania’s gas imports and transportation company Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas) has sold its hotel Žydroji Liepsna in the seaside resort of Palanga to Liuks, a company representing the international hotel chain Best Western in Lithuania, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Experts estimate that such a building in Palanga could cost close to 4.5 million litas (EUR 1.3 m). Sources say that Lietuvos Dujos has decided to divest the three-star hotel in Palanga as part of unnecessary assets.

Zigmantas Dargevičius, CEO of Liuks, told the daily that it was impossible to open a Best Western hotel in Palanga for the meantime.

“Palanga has not yet grown into a resort that would attract tourists all year round. Much depends on seasonal factors here and the revenues decline by several times during off-season as compared with summer,” he said.

Three Best Western hotels – in Vilnius, Kaunas and Druskininkai – have been opened in Lithuania so far.
