Lithuanian Post set to buy Siuntos24 self-service parcel terminals

Lithuania's state postal company Lietuvos Paštas (Lithuanian Post) is set to buy the Siuntos24 chain of self-service parcel terminals as part of its efforts to strengthen its market position, the Eversus.lt online news site reports, citing unnamed sources.

The terms of the deal are being finalized, it writes.

Lietuvos Paštas and Kautra confirmed to BNS that they are in talks on investing in the 24-hour self-service parcel chain, but would not elaborate.

Lietuvos Paštas spokeswoman Aurelija Jonušaitė told BNS that the company is considering investing in Baltic Post.

"Yes, we are considering it, but negotiations are ongoing," she said.

Kautra CEO Linas Skardžiukas told BNS that talks are underway on Lietuvos Paštas' "active" participation in Baltic Post, a subsidiary of Kautra.

"The issue is still open. It would be difficult to give any comment today," he said.

Siuntos24 is a joint project between Baltic Post and Lietuvos Paštas. The former is installing self-service parcel terminals and the latter is providing parcel delivery services.

It was announced last October that Baltic Post was planning to invest 18 million litas (EUR 5.2 m) in the Siuntos24 project over a period of three years. Skardžiukas told BNS that some 9 million litas has been invested to date.

Siuntos24 says that parcel sending and collection terminals are now available in 34 cities and towns.
