"The aim is to create tension on both sides in the negotiations on the future [gas] price," he told the Žinių Radijas radio station on Thursday.
The prime minister also said that the information about a possible rise in gas prices was inaccurate.
"It is inaccurate. Based on the information I have from the experts who are taking part in the talks with Gazprom. Also, it has been said once again that this is not true. The experts on the Russian side are very surprised, too, at such behavior from some people in Lithuania. They are treating this as if some people in Lithuania want that price for Lithuania to be actually raised," he said.
Gazprom says that it is not changing the price of gas for Lithuania in 2014: the supplier's recently unveiled maximum price estimate for next year is the same as the one announced a year ago for 2013, which is around 450 euros per 1,000 cubic meters.
Based on information provided by Gazprom to its shareholders, the price of gas for Lithuania should have surged by 45 percent, from 311 to 450 euros per 1,000 cubic meters, since the start of 2012.
