Ninety-two percent of Lithuanian Internet users used the Net for reading online newspapers this year, the second-highest percentage in Europe after Iceland's 94 percent.

Estonia was third with 91 percent, followed by Latvia with 88 percent.

Lithuania also had the second-highest percentage of people who use the Internet for posting messages in social media, after Montenegro's 77 percent. Estonians and Latvians were less active on social media, with 56 percent and 51 percent, respectively.

The survey showed that Lithuania still lagged behind EU average in terms of Internet access. Sixty-two percent of the country's households had Internet access this year, compared with EU average of 76 percent.

Eurostat conducted the survey in all EU member states and Iceland, Norway, Turkey, Croatia, and Montenegro in the first quarter of this year.
