The percentage of those expecting housing prices to rise in the next 12 months fell by 5 points to 27 percent and the percentage of those forecasting falling prices was down by 1 point to 22 percent, the bank said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The results of the surveys conducted in 2012 on a quarterly basis show that the prevailing opinion among the population is that housing prices will not change in the coming 12 months. Such price stabilization expectations can be regarded as favorable to those who have plans to purchase a home," Julita Varanauskienė, a family finance expert at SEB Bankas, said in the press release.

A similar survey carried out in Latvia in December found that 39 percent of Latvians expected housing prices to rise, 13 percent anticipated a fall in prices and 30 percent thought that prices would remain stable. The percentage rates in Latvia were almost unchanged from those in September.

Baltijos Tyrimai (Baltic Surveys) polled 1,040 people aged between 15 and 74 years in Lithuania on December 7 to 14.
