INPP management says that it now expects to obtain a license to start using the buffer storage facility for very low-radiation waste.

Specialus Montažas, Vilstata, Lithuanian Energy Institute, and Pramprojektas built the buffer storage facility under a contract signed in December 2007.

The buffer storage facility is the first part of a project, known as B19, for building a landfill facility for short-lived very low-level radioactive waste.

In line with its EU accession agreement, Lithuania permanently shut down Ignalina plant on the last day of 2009.
