Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius: Lithuania doesn't link ethnic minority and infrastructure issues

Lithuania does not link ethnic minority issues and energy and transport projects with Poland but solves problems of ethnic communities, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius told BNS on Wednesday in response to a recent statement by Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski when he told the Polish Sejm that the resolution of issues of the Polish ethnic minority in Lithuania would help to „easier implement“ bilateral transport and energy projects.

„We do not link these issues but solve problems of ethnic communities. A special working group has finished its work and suggests allowing spelling of ethnic minority names in their original form with Latin characters,“ Linkevicius said.

„We hope that the resolution of the most burning issues, including those related to the rights of the Polish minority in Lithuania, would help to easier implement bilateral projects, including new roads, rail and energy links,“ Sikorski said during the presentation of foreign policy priorities in the Polish Sejm.
