"This would complete yet another project of the ministry's renovation, (...) which facilitates proper preparations for presidency over the European Union," the Finance Ministry said in the draft governmental resolution.
The 9.2 million litas will be spent on reconstruction of the Foreign Ministry building in 2013.
Lithuania's Embassy in London moved to new premises near the British parliament last fall. Lithuania reportedly bought the building for 60 million litas in 2007. After the new acquisition was adapted to diplomatic needs, the old administrative building was sold.
Earlier plans had it that the Foreign Ministry would be reconstructed for the money received from sales of real estate and land in Warsaw, which are estimated at 8.8 million litas.
According to a new draft, the money from Poland should be earmarked for acquisition of new embassy facilities in Finland, which had been rented up until now, and cover the increase of the costs for construction of the consulate general to Grodno, Belarus.
The Finance Ministry's proposals are in line with the recommendations of the Foreign Ministry and the State Property Fund.
