Some 16.2 percent intend to buy a second-hand car and 1.5 percent would buy a brand new car.

“The consumers’ planned behavior on the car market has been similar for the fourth consecutive year. Some 17.7 percent of consumers intend to buy a car within six months, and the respective share was 18.2 percent a year ago,” Darius Gricius, CEO of communication planning agency OMD, said.

The share of consumers who decided to postpone purchasing a car went down to 8.2 percent, from 9.9 percent a year ago.

“A car is an expensive non-necessity. The number of consumers who intend to buy a car within six months is really significant enough, in particular as one in two residents already owns a car. The survey data imply that the number of drivers and cars in Lithuania will ... increase,” Dalia Uždovinienė, CEO of Danske Lizingas, said in a press release.

Omnicom Media Group polled 917 respondents between 24 and 29 May. It polled 1,007 respondents in an analogous survey on 23–30 May 2011.
