The oil field had already been approved and entered into the national underground register, the Environment Ministry said in a press release.

Crude had been found at the depth of more than 2 kilometers, Jonas Satkūnas, deputy director of Lithuania’s Geological Service, said.

Manifoldas extracted up to 30,100 tons of crude last year, up 48.3 percent versus 2010.

Some 113,800 tons of crude were extracted from 61 wells in Lithuania last year. The resources of 16 oil fields with an estimated 2.338 million tons of crude have been explored extensively and approved so far.
