One in three Lithuanians get at least one type of pension

Some 941,200 people in Lithuania, or one-third of the population, received at least one type of pension at the end of last year, preliminary data from the country’s statistics office showed on Thursday.

The total number of pension beneficiaries rose by 3,400, or 0.4 percent, in 2011 from 2010, Statistics Lithuania said.

At the end of 2011, 708,500 persons received old age-related pensions.

According to provisional data, expenditures on pensions last year rose by 0.56 percent, or 37.5 million litas versus 2010, to 8.2 billion litas (EUR 2.4 b). The pensions-to-GDP ratio went down to 7.7 percent, from 8.6 percent in 2010.
