Only 17 percent of Lithuanians think EU aid is allocated well

Mere 17 percent of people living in Lithuania's five major cities think that EU financial support to Lithuania goes to those people who need it most and to those projects that bring or will bring the most benefit to the country, according to a poll published by the weekly magazine Veidas.

Some 29.4 percent of respondents thought that the allocation of EU aid in Lithuania was completely inadequate and 52 percent said that they had seen both good and bad examples, the latest poll by Prime Consulting showed.

However, 62.4 percent of those polled said that they thought that Lithuania was catching up with developed countries with the help of EU money.

Some 30.8 percent said that Lithuania was making no headway and another 5.8 percent thought that it was increasingly lagging behind.

Prime Consulting polled 500 residents of the country's five major cities on 30 to 31 July.
