Petrol prices cross 5 litas per liter threshold

Amid a recent sharp rise in oil prices, the price of 95 gasoline at the pump in Lithuania has for the first time ever crossed the threshold of 5 litas (EUR 1.45) per liter.

Statoil's filling station in Goštautas Street, central Vilnius, was selling 95 gasoline, the most popular grade in the country, at 5.01 litas per liter before noon on Thursday, a worker of the station told BNS.

Lukoil's station in Geležinis Vilkas Street and Orlen's station in Milašius Street were selling 95 gasoline at 4.95 litas per liter.

BNS calculated that the price of gasoline in Vilnius has surged by more than 0.30 litas per liter since early January.
