Polish food producers make their way into Lithuania

Polish manufacturers are bringing an increasing number of their products to Lithuania, where these products sell well because they are cheaper, the daily Lietuvos Rytas reports.

"Polish dairy product sales rose by one-third in the first half of last year compared with the second half of 2011. Meat and meat product sales were up by around one-fifth," says Albertas Gapšys, the head of the Product Marketing Unit at the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics.

Preliminary data show that similar trends continued in the second half of 2012. Dairy and meat product imports from Poland are clearly increasing.

However, retailers say that many buyers are still loyal to Lithuanian food products, particularly fresh foods.
