"I wouldn't objet very much to any initiatives to hold referenda or public polls, but only provided that the public is properly informed and the question is properly formulated," the prime minister said in an interview for the Žinių Radijas (News Radio) on Thursday.

"People should be asked whether they want cheaper power that would be produced at the Visaginas nuclear power plant," Kubilius said.

The Lithuanian government estimates the price of power produced by the Visaginas nuclear power plant, expected to be built by 2020-2021, will be lower than the market price. Besides, it would increase energy security of Lithuania, currently dependent on Russian energy resources.
