“First of all, the government will not sign the agreement, it can only approve it. The government will approve the agreement once it is signed in the ministry (of environment). The laws paving the way for the launch of exploration works have already been passed. As far as I know, Chevron agrees with these legislative amendments,” he said in an interview to Žinių Radijas radio station on Tuesday.

“That information, which was announced, that Chevron may exit Lithuania, is totally untrue. What is left for them is to carry out the environmental impact assessment. To put it in simpler terms, to win approval from community members. As far as I know, they are working very actively on this,” Butkevičius said.

He added that he planned to meet with Chevron’s executives in the near time.
