PST interested in replacing Vėtrūna as Nukem's sub-contractor in Ignalina

Panevėžio Statybos Trestas (PST), one of Lithuania's leading construction companies, is interested in a new tender for sub-contractors to be launched by Nukem Technologies, a Russian-owned German company that is carrying out multi-billion-litas closure projects at Lithuania's Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP).

"We received an invitation a couple of weeks ago and went to the plant to look around. We did not discuss any contracts," the business daily Verslo Žinios quoted Dalius Gesevičius, CEO of PST, as saying on Wednesday.

Although PST is interested in the project, Gesevičius was not sure if Nukem's proposed terms and conditions for cooperation would be acceptable to the building company. PST held talks with the decommissioning project contractor back in 2010, but no contract was signed then, he said.

"We took part in the bidding and negotiated and talked a lot with Nukem, but it was Vetrūna that signed the contract back then. Everything seemed to be risky. Our company found the terms and conditions unacceptable. That was why we did not sign the contract," the CEO said.

Mitnija, another major construction company, also confirmed holding talks with Nukem.

Following several months of talks, Vetrūna said last Friday that it had terminated its contract with Nukem due to debts. It did not say how much the contractor owed it.
