“The company has suspended flights. They were suspended during the holiday period in May. Business gets sluggish in mid-May, many people go on vacation. Flights were suspended for a period when there is just no need to fly that much,” Jūratė Baltrusaitytė, director of commerce at Kaunas Airport, told BNS.

The company is now thinking when to resume flights, she says.

“We are waiting for news at any time,” according Baltrusaitytė.

IrAero launched flights between Moscow and Vilnius at the end of December 2011.

Meanwhile, Russia’s AK Bars Aero said on Wednesday that it would stop direct flights between Vilnius and St. Petersburg from Monday, 4 June.

The route would be closed due to shortage of aircraft, the airport of Vilnius said adding that the company was also dissatisfied with the seat occupancy rate, which made up 40 percent on average.
