“Starvation diet”: prestigious service, but wages make for potential foreign intelligence targets

According to some politicians and analysts, our diplomatic service receives funding that is vastly insufficient considering its importance. High requirements are set for diplomats, from their education to foreign language skills, but they do not even earn on average 1 thousand euro after tax. Due to non-competitive wages, a part of professionals leave the diplomatic service and new ones are little interested in joining, while some lack motivation. Furthermore, some MPs emphasise that the underpaid diplomats make for potential foreign intelligence agency targets.
