Vareika’s appointment by the board is effective from 25 April, Achema reports.
Vareika, 49, has been working for Achema since 1986.
Meanwhile, Sirvydis, 76, has been appointed to a new independent board of Achemos Grupė. He worked for Achema from 1964 and headed the company since 1999.
The composition of the new board of Achemos Grupė has not been unveiled as yet. Virginija Dunauskienė, the company's spokeswoman, told BNS that the board would elect its chair and choose a new head of the concern on 3-4 May.
Lyda Lubienė, widow of late Bronislovas Lubys, holds a 50.375 percent stake in Achemos Grupė together with her daughter Viktorija Lubytė. Jūratė Zadeikienė, Lubys’ elder daughter, holds a stake of 11.625 percent.
Lubys, who was one of Lithuania’s richest business people, owned 62 percent of shares in Achemos Grupė.
Sirvydis owns a 7 percent stake.
Achemos Grupė owns 94.96 percent of Achema’s shares. The company, which was established in 2001, owns several dozens of companies active in Lithuania and abroad.

Valdemaras Vareika replaces Jonas Sirvydis as CEO of Achema
Valdemaras Vareika, the production director at Achema, will replace Jonas Sirvydis as CEO of Lithuania’s nitrogen fertilizer and chemical product manufacturer controlled by Achemos Grupė (Achema Group).
