Vilnius sees growth in tourist numbers

Numbers of visitors in Vilnius are forecast to rise during this year's tourism season after several years of slowdown, the daily Vilniaus Diena reports.

The number of visitors to Vilnius Tourist Information Centre & Convention Bureau (VTIC CB) surged by 30.54 percent in the first four months of this year compared with a year ago.

A total of 24,460 people visited VTIC CB in January through April, including 6,255 Lithuanians and 18,205 foreign guests. This is up from 16,900, 4,573 and 12,417 in the same period last year, respectively.

Visitor numbers from Russia increased to 5,682 this year, from 3,337, and those from Poland were up to 1,766, from 1,196 a year ago.

Spain last year was in third place, with the number of visitors to VTIC CB reaching 779, while Belarus was as low as in seventh place.

This year, the number of visitors from Belarus increased to 1,478 and the number of Spanish visitors was up to 1,025 visitors. Interestingly, Swedes dropped off the top ten nations list, while Latvians made it on to the list.
