Former Lithuanian President Rolandas Paksas, removed from office through impeachment, will have a seat reserved in the presidential box of the Seimas March 11 Hall during a solemn parliamentary sitting on July 4 for the occasion of the start of the Lithuanian EU Council presidency, the Lietuvos Žinios daily writes.

Paksas' appearance in the presidential box during a March 11 commemoration sparked controversy.

The Seimas' Social Democratic Vice-Speaker Gediminas Kirkilas believes that "an ex-president is an ex-president", no matter whether he/she served the full term or not as the law says nothing about that.

Meanwhile, Jurgis Razma of the opposition Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats says that a president of two terms and Paksas, who breached his oath, should not be put in the same box. "I don't think that they should both be presented as equal leaders. The Seimas management should find appropriate ways to highlight this difference," he said.

Paksas' Order and Justice party is part of the ruling coalition together with the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, the Labor Party, and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania.
