M. Laurinavičius: railways could replace energy as Russia’s strategic weapon

Presenting his study of the Kremlin’s influence on the Lithuanian and Baltic States’ rail transport, Marius Laurinavičius stated that with Lithuania taking the path of energy independence, Russia could seek to employ the railways as a strategic weapon.

According to the analyst, so far Lithuania’s actions have partially “helped defend from the expansion of a network of companies and individuals linked to Russia, however, with the legal fight moving to the European Union level, the potential outcome is hard to predict.”
