The body of Audrius Šenavičius, an officer of the Lithuanian Customs Department who was killed in a shooting in Kosovo last week, was flown back to Lithuania on Wednesday night, Gintarė Vitkauskaitė-Satkauskienė, spokeswoman for the Customs Department, has confirmed to BNS.

The body was taken home on a C-27J "Spartan" of the Lithuanian Air Force. The plane landed at the Air Force Air Base in Šiauliai, northern Lithuania, at around 7 PM.

Šenavičius was killed last Thursday during his mission in the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) when unidentified individuals opened fire at two vehicles carrying EU officials close to the city of Zvecan in northern Kosovo, close to the Serbian border.

The funeral will take place on Friday in Anykščiai, northeastern Lithuania. Šenavičius was married and had two children.

Šenavičius is the third Lithuanian officer killed during an international mission over the post-independence period.
