On Monday afternoon, the president will visit the Lithuanian Chapel in the St. Peter's Basilica, her spokeswoman Daiva Ulbinaite told BNS.

The solemn inaugural service is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Grybauskaite intends to present the new pope with a Lithuanian palm crafted in the Vilnius area.

Last week, the conclave of cardinals elected Argentinian cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as the new pope of the Catholic Church. He chose the name Francis and is the first pope from South America.
