Dalia Grybauskaite: US missile decision should not affect NATO plans to defend Lithuania

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite says the United States' decision against deploying elements of an anti-missile defense system in Poland, the so-called missile interceptors, should not affect NATO's plans to defend its whole territory, including Lithuania.

„The US decision on the review of the implementation of the 4 th stage of the anti-missile defense should not affect the strategy approved in Chicago in 2012, stating that NATO's anti-missile system will defend the territory of the whole Alliance, including Lithuania, in the same way,“ presidential adviser Liudas Zakarevicius communicated the president's position to BNS.

The comment followed the announcement by the US Department of Defense on Friday that Washington would review one of the parts of its anti-missile defense plan in Europe, namely the program of interceptors which were meant to be deployed in Eastern Europe.
