Adomavičius, who has suspended his membership in the Social Democratic Party, is suspected of "having directly demanded for his personal benefit, provoked, and accepted a bribe of LTL 40,000", the SIS said in a statement.

Adomavičius is suspected of having accepted a bribe in exchange for a promise to influence municipal staff so that they made a favorable decision in a public tender for services worth LTL 8 million (EUR 2.32 million).

Searches were conducted in the vice-mayor's office at Vilnius Municipality, at the headquarters of Vilnius Unit of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania and at company Vilniaus Vandenys (Vilnius Waters) last Thursday. Money was seized from Adomavičius but suspicions were not brought against him as he had legal immunity as a candidate in the upcoming Seimas elections.

Adomavičius denies all accusations and says the money was his personal funds meant for the election campaign.
