According to the Ministry of Justice, the secretary general of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe said in a letter that Lithuania needs to select three candidates for the position by April 15.

The Ministry of Justice announced a public selection for candidates. A working group will be established based on a decree by Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius to select candidates. The working group will review candidates' documents, submit a list of candidates who comply with the requirements and will recommend three candidates. The prime minister will submit the list to President Dalia Grybauskaitė who will then issue a decree nominating three candidates.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe chooses judges from three candidates to represent every country by a majority vote.
