Over the past few days, social networks are showered with photographs of people holding a slogan “Lithuania Loves Poland”.

On of the persons behind the idea, Mykolas Majauskas, said anger would not benefit anyone.

„I realize that sometimes hating is easier than loving. However, anger makes us weaker and deprives us of precious time. Therefore, we promoted an initiative that had gone global immediately,“ Majauskas, founder the of the World Economic Forum network and former adviser to Lithuania's ex-PM Andrius Kubilius, told BNS on Friday.

In his words, „shared history and friendship between the two nations has given a log of love that we must share.“

Last week, the incident when fans of the Lech Poznan soccer club put up a banner saying “Lithuanian Cad, Kneel Before the Polish Nobility” during a match with Zalgiris Vilnius made top headlines over the past week.

Top-ranking Polish officials apologized over the incident, which is being investigated by local prosecutors.

Journalist Rimvydas Valatka, a signatory of the 1990 Independence Act, said after being photographed with the slogan that the Lithuanian campaign should demonstrate that radicals cannot speak on behalf of entire nations.

The parliamentarians who joined the campaign told BNS that the good-willed reaction will help ease the tensions generated by the hooligans.
