Birutė Davidonytė. Transparent lobbying gathers dust in a Seimas shelf

The Special Investigation Service (STT) has arrested the heads of two organisations representing the business world, Mantas Zalatorius and Valdas Sutkus, on charges of illegal lobbying. Lobbying has remained a grey zone in Lithuania for years and politicians continue to struggle with summoning up the will to remedy this. For example, last year, there were efforts in Seimas to pass a law, which would oblige politicians to reveal their meetings with lobbyists and interest groups. However, both members of Seimas and the now suspect V. Sutkus opposed this. The law was terminated and shelved.
