On Sunday September 8, the first round of repeat Seimas elections was held in three electoral districts: Žirmūnai, Gargždai and Žiemgala. Repeat elections were needed because Aušra Maldeikienė was elected to the European Parliament, while Vitalijus Gailius and Bronius Markauskas became mayors. The elected MPs will work for a single year and voter turnout barely reached twenty percent.
