And so, ends the great intrigue – on Tuesday, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis declared what everyone was already expecting. Despite firm declarations made several times that he would resign, he is to remain prime minister and will continue to try steering the cabinet, which is going to change in who knows what direction. However, with this intrigue sputtering out, a new one emerges – whose prime minister will S. Skvernelis be in a week, a month or at the start of next year?

After what happened over the past few weeks and what was stated during them, it is becoming ever clear that with Lithuanian Farmer and Greens Union (LVŽS) chairman Ramūnas Karbauskis gluing together the coalition that features the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS), Lithuanian Social Democratic Labour Party (LSDDP), the Order and Justice party and Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Union even at the cost of his own boundless ego, Prime Minister S. Skvernelis demonstratively maintained a distance, initially going on holiday in Spain, then upon returning, shutting himself in the cabinet and spending time in internal consultations and only emerging into the public toward the end and seemingly unwillingly concluded the coalition building with his signature not under the coalition agreement, but under an annex of the agreement, which distributes posts in the cabinet.
