Approved by the minister's decree, the service should hold its first meeting on February 5 and elect its chairman, the Defense Ministry informs.

"The service will look into inquiries made by the minister and give advise, make guidance decisions. All members of the council will hold status as public advisers to the minister," reads the press release.

The council includes retired top-ranking Lithuanian military officers, namely, Lieutenant General Valdas Tutkus, Major General Jonas Algirdas Kronkaitis, Major General Jonas Andriškevičius, Brigadier General Česlovas Jezerskas, Fleet Admiral Raimundas Saulius Baltuška, and Brigadier General Zenonas Kulys.

"The main objective in establishing the council was to honor the officers who held the highest military ranks in the Lithuanian Armed Forces and use the valuable military experience they have accumulated over the years of independence," Olekas said in the press release.
