Breakthrough? Compromises for the clashing Baltic States over Astravyets

Lithuania says it is continuing negotiations with Latvia and Estonia over a methodology for trading electricity from third countries, which is relevant for Vilnius due to the near-complete Astravyets Nuclear Power Plant in Belarus. Failing to convince the other Baltic States to accept the commitment of not purchasing power from Astravyets, Lithuania wants guarantees that that would help ensure that electricity generated by this plant would not enter the country. With the Lithuanian government undecided on whether existing guarantees suffice, the European Commission has presented proposals to achieve a compromise between the three countries.
