The Court also suggested that organizations representing schoolchildren, students, higher schools, teachers, and ethnic minorities as well as the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language express their opinion on the issue by April 2, the Court said in a statement.
A group of MPs had asked the Court to rule whether the education minister's decree on changes to the Lithuanian language and literature exam program does not run counter to the Constitution and the Law on Education.
The members of the opposition believe exceptions stipulated by the decree in fact mean cancelation of a unified Lithuanian language and literature exam, which runs counter to the Law on Education's provisions that "the evaluation of learning achievements is organized unified for students of schools of all languages." The provision should have come into force this year.
