International human rights advocates signal Lithuania over migrants

International human rights advocacy organisations condemn the Belarusian regime for exploiting people to exact its political revenge and emphasise Lithuania’s right to employ measures to control its border. At the same time, the activists note that Lithuania must comply with its commitments over asylum review processes, that it cannot arbitrarily repel migrants back to Belarus. Meanwhile, policy experts say that in the case of crisis, national security interests typically counterbalance the arguments of human rights defenders and the use of typical rules might not prove suitable.
