Latvian decision regarding Astravyets caused by protests in Belarus, but technical details remain ambiguous

Experts and Latvian politics observers say that the last straw, which led the country’s government to decide on not purchasing Belarussian electricity after the launch of Astravyets Nuclear Power Plant, were the unending protests over the presidential election results and officers’ abuse of activists. Lithuania hopes that this decision by Riga will help in building a foundation for a system separating Belarussian electrical power from Russia’s.
