During the meeting on Thursday, Skaisgiryte-Liauskiene and the queen recalled the royal visit to Lithuania in 2006, discussed Lithuania's readiness for presidency over the European Council and presented the role of the Lithuanian UK community in the promotion of bilateral cultural and educational relations, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

„During a conversation after the official ceremony, Lithuania's 15th ambassador in London recalled that the Lithuanian diplomatic mission to the UK was established back in 1919. She also thanked for the policy of non-recognition of Lithuania's 1940-1990 annexation by the Soviets,“ reads the press release.

According to the communique, Lithuania's exports to the UK swelled by 76 percent in 2012 to over 4 billion litas (EUR 1.3 b).

Skaisgiryte-Liauskiene, Lithuania's former foreign vice-minister, has been heading the Embassy in London since November 2012.
