"The draft resolution was prepared in response to the request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia to provide premises to a diplomat of the Republic of Latvia at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Moldova whenever possible. After closure of the position of defense attache that left one office vacant, the embassy has an opportunity to provide the premises to a diplomat of the Republic of Latvia on the temporary basis," the Foreign Ministry said in an explanatory note.

The plan is to rent the premises to Latvia for a symbolic annual fee of one euro. The diplomat will also have an opportunity to use premises of common use.

The ministry reminds that the eight Nordic and Baltic states last August signed a memorandum on placing diplomats in premises of other countries' diplomatic missions.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that, on the parity principle, the Latvian Foreign Ministry has also proposed providing premises of its Embassy to Kazakhstan to a Lithuanian diplomat performing consular functions.
