Lithuania's ruling parties pledge no government reshuffle after Labor Party's verdict

Nothing changes in the ruling coalition in spite of the guilty verdict in the Labor Party's case, leaders of the four Lithuanian ruling parties said after a meeting of the coalition's political council on Monday.

The fact was confirmed by Social Democratic Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and Vytautas Gapšys, leader of the Labor Party (laborists).

"The ruling majority, the coalition will continue its stable work. What was said yesterday after a meeting of our party's board is the opinion of our party's board which discussed certain moral things, and all the remaining questions should be addressed to colleague Gapšys. It's his right of self-determination," Butkevičius said after Monday's meeting.

"We cleared up our relations and in this case I can say it very simply that the Social Democrats expressed their opinion and we gave our response, provided additional information. And in this case, it's the Labor Party's competence whom to delegate to certain positions," Gapšys said.

The Labor Party's leader underlined that "there's no basis for this ruling, which is still not in force, to affect the coalition work in any way."

Meanwhile the opposition believe that the Social Democratic Party should review the composition of the ruling coalition after leaders of the Labor Party were found guilty of fraud and fraudulent bookkeeping.
