Lithuanian parliament backs proposal to issue diplomatic passports for military officers

The Seimas of Lithuania gave its initial backing to amendments to the Law on Diplomatic Service for diplomatic passports to be issued to high-ranking military officers.

The amendments were backed 55-3 with three abstentions. The draft will now go to Seimas committees and will return to parliament for further consideration on April 25.

Under the plan, diplomatic passports would be issued to troops from the professional military service whp have at least the military degree of lieutenant colonel or commander, who are sent for military service to foreign states or international military and defense institutions.
