"As other countries in the world, we are dealing with the problem of chemical weapons dumped in the sea. We need to continue the research of chemical weapons dumped in the Baltic Sea," Prime Minister Butkevičius was quoted as saying in a statement by his Press Service.
"We need to have an ecosystem-based attitude to the management of protection of marine environment, to prevent pollution of the Baltic Sea, seek to preserve biological diversity and ensure that navigation and other economic activities comply with environmental laws and do not pollute the Baltic Sea," Butkevičius said.
In his words, the ecological situation of the Baltic Sea and its role on regional development will be also discussed at an EU conference in November in Vilnius during the Lithuanian EU Presidency.
